Saving Lives - Best Diamond Blade Review
Note, This is a real testimonial from a real division chief:
We finally conducted some testing with that blade and have decided it is awesome! We compared this blade with the blades we currently carry and the Extractor won hands down.
Product Review: Extractor All Purpose Diamond Blade
Requested by North Metro SWAT breaching team
Johns Creek Fire Department Station 63A field tested the 14 Extractor All Purpose Diamond Blade for its reliability, ability to penetrate, speed of cutting, and usage wear.
We used the Husqvarna Partner K750 saw during our tests. Seven Firefighters all used the blade to cut through a host of common materials and repeated multiple times. The same Extractor blade was used for all tests. The Rescue/Demolition blade currently in our stock was used on the same materials for a comparison.
The first test was through 26-30 gauge corrugated metal as commonly found on roofs, garage doors, etc. The Extractor outperformed the Demolition blade by cutting faster and cleaner.
The Second test was cutting through a high security combination door handle and its housing unit made of hardened steel and aluminum. The Extractor blade was superior in its performance especially in its handling and less byproduct.
The third test was through lightweight concrete reinforced fire door. The Demolition blade outperformed the Extractor blade in this test cutting faster.
The fourth test was through a Pressure treated 4x4. The demolition blade cut slightly faster but possibly due to the Extractor blade was becoming extremely hot and tended to burn into the wood. The blade was later allowed to cool before further tests. However, the demolition blade threw a lot more shrapnel and was considered by testers to be less safe than the Extractor.
The fifth test was through hardened concrete. The Extractor blade was hands down the most efficient blade for this operation. The Demolition blade was extremely slow and much noisier in its operation. The Extractor blade cut through the concrete with ease and showed no signs of slowing down.
The fifth test was cutting on vehicles while conducting auto extrication training the week of May 28 2012. The blade cut sheet metal beautifully and even cut through a car FRAME !
Final conclusion: Not knowing the cost difference in the two blades it is unknown to the testers of a valued comparison. For overall speed, reliability, wear usage, and ability to penetrate and cut it is the opinion of the testers that the Extractor blade is the hands down top performer. The blade produces less noise, less byproduct shrapnel, and cuts through a wider range of materials than the Demolition blade. The blade was put through a barrage of materials and showed no obvious usage wear or damage. It is the consensus of the testing group that having just this blade on a K750 would give the operator more flexibility to cut through given obstacles in a much faster and safer manner. This blade could replace the multiple blades that we currently stock and serve as a true multi-purpose blade…
